I was looking forward to going to Retreat this year more than ever. I had a lot of things in my heart and mind that I just couldn't seem to shake them on my own, on my home turf. So I went with the intent of coming back changed.
The theme this year was Living Stones and the scripture verse was 1 Peter 2:5 "you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." The Retreat leaders had river stones everywhere! There were lots of stones scattered on the tables as centerpieces, they made inukshuks, and they had crafts using the rocks as well.
Our speaker was Tamara Peterson from B.C. She was amazing! She had a lot of fantastic things to say to us and to teach us and here are a few things that she said that hit a mark with me:
~ God is the Great Storyteller
~ God knows how beautiful we can be
~ There is pain in bringing out the beautiful
~ Change takes time!!!
~ Sacrificing ourselves is really no sacrifice at all
~ Your love is stronger than mine-your words are deeper than mine...
~ The meaning of life can not be told, it has to happen to a person
~ Be specific when you criticize your kids
~ I am Pamela King and I am a recovering sinner and I will be a recovering sinner until the day I die
I always keep a journal when I go to something like this. It helps me chronicle my thoughts and feelings while I experience what I am there to experience. It also helps me to voice things that I feel that I can't voice, or feel that I am not supposed to say; also things that I am scared to admit, but once I have it on paper it is sort of out in the open you know?
So, last time I checked everyone was entitled to their own opinion right!? And that's exactly what it is: your own opinion. It stops becoming your own opinion when you criticize someone for something they said and then threaten them with public defamation and suing you. This is what has happened to my husband. He started a discussion on his facebook about whether or not to send your kids to Western (Christian high school in Regina ~ affiliated with the Church of Christ). A few people commented on it and gave their OPINION and what they would do with their children. These people are friends of my husband's, former classmates from Western, and family members. Not once did he criticize Western of anything about it, only the fact that he wouldn't send his kids there for high school because he would want them to graduate with their friends in public high school. Nothing wrong with that right? Now considering that his children are/would be also my children, I don't want them to go to Western for high school. They will not even be given the option. They leave home so soon as it is, why send them out sooner!? Anyway, a friend/relative who coincidentally happens to work at Western, gave her comments and such. THEN, she emails him privately and tells him that he's defaming Western and that he's condemning Western and telling people not to send your kids there, and that he can be sued! What the smack? Since when can you be sued for having a discussion with your friends!!? I want to email her but Owen won't let me. I don't think it's right that she is saying all this and pretty much threatening to sue him!
So, I'm on a two day diet. I have to have a colonoscopy (yay-insert sarcasm here) on Tuesday, and so I'm on this stupid two day diet. I can only eat Jello, juice, water, broth. Yum. I'm SOOOO hungry! How can one get meal satisfaction from jello!? This chick needs food. I intentionally did not schedule myself to be at work today. Being around the bakery would just not be a good thing. I'll just clean my house instead. Maybe some things I'll find will make me not want food for a week anyway. Boo.
Hokey Dina I suck. When I started this blog I totally intended to keep at it and be on here as much as I'm on facebook... but then you'd be reading here forever! lol Anyway, life has been busy, busy, busy. I had gone to a ladies retreat a few weeks ago, and I totally wanted to blog about it as soon as I got home, but again, busy, busy, and it got left behind. BUT, I will be blogging about it. I'm just forming the words, and I haven't got the pics uploaded yet and all that anyway! SO. But yes, I am going to get back to blogging! Yay me.
Sleep. I like to sleep. Really I do. I need more of it. I love the mornings when I wake up and feel so rested and full of energy and zeal to tackle a bunch of things. Mind you, the feeling quickly fades cause I'm just plain lazy sometimes but you get it, right? I did not have a very good sleep at all last night. I woke up this morning with a sore neck and start of a headache, and no ambition. I want to sleep. I wish I could sleep 11-12 hours like Janessa does. Ah to be a 2 year old eh? Maybe I shouldn't have gone to bed at midnight... I could have gotten more sleep.
Well, I've decided to try a blog. I used to have an account at livejournal.com and it was my outlet. A lot of people I know have blogs and it helps them to do a lot of things, so I'm going to try it. So here is my first 'blog' on my blog. I'm blogging.
